Ice cream cake!

My friend asked me if I could make a cake for her. She sent me a pic.

I thought I could do it! Looked easy enough and it was. I really enjoyed making it!!! Here is my finished cake at the ice cream social...

The cake is so moist and fluffy. The most delicious white cake ever. Even if chocolate cake is your favorite, you have to give this a try!
Here are links to what I used to make it:

Frosting- (I did one and a half batch of the recipe) http://www.recipegirl.com/2007/03/16/wedding-cupcake-buttercream/
Ganache- 12 oz chocolate chips and 12 oz heavy cream. Bring cream to a simmer. Pour on top of chocolate and stir. Add a little vanilla and a little butter. Stir until smooth. Let cool a little.

Awards

Yesterday was Christian's reading restaurant. He was my waiter and was dressed up like waldo, the book character. I got a menu with different choices to order and he read me the poems or stories.

Then he brought me lemonade and cookies. So sweet! He was awarded the life skill of CURIOSITY because he asks a lot of questions about everything and looks for more information in encyclopedias, books, and the Internet in class. Smarty pants!

Here is Christian with Mrs. Smith. She is amazing!

And I got this CUTE picture of Heidi and Christian after the awards.

Ethan's awards were today. He is so sweet and smart. He worked really hard this year. He got a lot of awards. Here they are....

Gold Presidential education award for outstanding academic excellence!
{had to have a 90 or better overall in every subject}

Color Me Rad 5k

Last Saturday Megan and I ran our first 5k. Well, walked/jogged it anyway. It was SO fun! Heather came with us, too. It benefitted the Ronald McDonald house. I love that.

The start line when we first arrived.

Before we were bombed with colored cornstarch. Nice, clean white shirts!

Rebecca and I!!! It was so fun to see her there!

I love that Megan and I experienced this together!

The funnest part was seeing what all the cool racers were wearing. We heard that there were some guys wearing underwear and capes and when they walked by us, we had to take a picture!

The start line right when the race started. There were TONS of people there! It was so exciting!!!

After the race!

Throwing colors in celebration!

I really enjoyed this. I'm already signing up for the next 5k. This time I am going to train a little more and try to jog a little longer.

Megan's Hunger Games Party

Megan loves the Hunger Games. I have to admit, I HATED the idea of those books. I won the first book a couple years ago at bunco and I refused to read it. Barbaric!!!!! Then I got bored and read them. All 3 in three days. My house was in shambles and I had to lock myself in my room a few times while I was crying uncontrollably. I LOVED them!!!!

We had so much fun planning the party. We borrowed a bow and arrows and set up a blow dart station (PVC and mini marshmallows). We got the backyard ready to go and then the rains came. A lot of rain. And it didn't stop. So no swimming or archery. We brought the dart target inside. The girls enjoyed that and a match game about the districts and just talking and having fun. Then we watched the movie. It was AWESOME!!!!!!

Here are a few pics from the evening festivities.

The decorations. I loved making this. My favorite is the mockingjay. That was so fun. I think I will hang it in Megan's room.

I tried to make the food similar to the food the characters ate in the book. Chicken wings were rabbit legs and the cheeseball was like the goat cheese from Prim's goat. And we can't forget Peeta's bread! The desserts were fancy treats like the Capitol served. We also had fruit cornucopias.

The rose cake. I am so amazed I made this and it was so easy!!!!

She loves the birthday song!!!

Blowing out 12 candles. I can't believe my baby girl is getting so mature and growing up into such a beautiful young woman.

The girls watching the movie!

Everyone blowing marshmallows at each other!!!!

Party favors

I'm so glad Megan has such sweet friends and that they came to celebrate with her. I love her so much. She amazes me everyday.

Christian

Christian is so funny to be around. He is not shy and loves to talk. I have a few little moments to share...
Recently Jared took the boys camping with Ethan's cub scout group. One of the leaders asked Christian if he was going to join cub scouts next year. He replied, "Yeah, I'm tired of being a sibling." So cute! He cracks me up.
Last night Christian brought me a chocolate Easter bunny and asked if he could eat it. I told him yes. Well I guess he went into the kitchen and got a Cutco knife to open the package. Next thing I know he walks up to me with blood covering his arm from his fingers down to his elbow. Not crying, just said, "mom, I'm bleeding." Of course I freak out and Jared helps him to the bathroom. So glad he was there! We couldn't tell if he needed stitches so we took him to the urgent care. Christian was really brave. He never cried, but he did make noises that seemed very similar to the ones I'm sure came out of me when in labor! I was really sad he had to go through that and even though I was close to vomiting the whole time, I stayed by his side. Jared offered to take my place, but I needed to be there for my baby. Anyway, when we were all done and Christian was bandaged up, the doctor asked him if he learned anything. Christian said yes, that knives are really sharp! Hopefully he remembers that next time he wants to eat a chocolate bunny. Or any other packaged goods.

Ethan's 9th birthday!

We asked Ethan what he wanted for his birthday and he said he wanted to go to Legoland Discovery Center. So that's just what we did. We had a great time!

Waiting in line to get in...

Playing with Legos waiting to get in the factory..

Waiting...

Ethan getting to help in the factory.

The 4-D movies were my favorite part!!!

(Heidi was unsure if she liked wearing the glasses)

The girls singing karaoke.

Fun Lego figures to sit on.

You can build cars and race them down three different tracks. The boys loved it! Heidi, too!

Attractions from the DFW area all made out of Legos.

Dallas

Dallas and cowboys stadium at night. The lights go in and out like day and night. Really cool. And there was a fireworks show on the wall. The models are interactive. Very fun.

Great wolf lodge. Our favorite :)

Megan in the play area. It was huge and the kids had a blast in there.

There were also two fun rides and a cool place to build Lego towers that you could test with an earthquake simulator.

Finally time to leave. Almost made it out without a meltdown. Almost.

Happy birthday, Ethan. We hope your birthday was awesome!!!
